Final Promotional Posters

Channel 4 Poster

I believe that my poster looks appropriate for Channel 4 and it follows the conventions of the poster that they create. This is both with the typography and the logo as this is what is used with all of the posters that they create. Also because I retook the photo so that there is the person in the back ground which is more likely to be a Channel 4 poster because it will make people more understanding about the person affected.

E4 Poster

This poster that I have created for E4 follows the conventions of other posters that I have looked at by having the E4 logo and banner. As well as this, the actual image follows conventions of an E4 poster because it is a bright image that shows someone of the same age as the people in the program and the target audience so they will find personal identity and be more inclined to watch it.

ITV Poster

This poster that I have created follows the conventions of an ITV poster because it has a brightly coloured image with a large ITV logo on it which contains colours that have been taken out of the main image. It is not typically seen in ITV posters that they contain text about the program that it is advertising, it is more typical that the image is the main focus and then the logo from the poster. I believe that this will attract my target audience of 20-30 year old women because of the age of the person in the image being similar and the clothes that they are wearing.

Editing Photos

These thumb nails show my final photos that i will be using for my posters and bellow i will show the editing that I will do to make them final.

I have chosen this image to edit because there is enough room for the logo and also because the main focus in the picture is still on the drugs but you are able to see enough of the model to know that the poster is about children

The first stage of editing my channel 4 poster would be to invert the logo to make it white so that it shows up on the black back ground. I will then add this photo to my poster. After this I edited the contrast and colours of the photo to make it more dramatic.

To add text I used the photoshop typography "Calibri" in bold as this is the most similar one that I can find to the one that Channel 4 uses. I typed out my words in black and then put a white box behind it in order to make it stand out

The first thing I edited for my E4 poster was the logo, I found a photoshop document of the tape logo that they use on the posters, in order to use it for my product I erased the writing that was on the tape so that I could add my own. I did this by using the cloning stamp

Once I had removed the writing on the tape i edited the tape and the image to make it brighter and to increase the contrast in order to make the image more dramatic. I then added the words "Brand new Soap Outsiders" in order to make it personal to my poster. There was less editing required for my final poster because ITV poster typically only have the logo rather than a lot of writing on it. Therefore I changed the brightness and contrast of the picture to make it appear sunnier. I then changed the colours on the logo to make it fit with the picture.

The colours that I used in the ITV logo are ones that are taken out of the photo to help it to link which is seen commonly ITV posters

Test Shots

These are the test shots that I took for my posters but after looking at them on the computer and comparing them to photos that have been used for the actual promotional pictures so I have planned pictures to retake such as having the figure in the back ground of the Channel 4 picture

Typography

I will research different typography so that i am able to find one that is the most similar to the ones that are used on the posters, this will be done so that i can easily type my text and know that it will match. It will be important that i use the appropriate typography for the appropritate poster otherwise the target audience may not recognise it or all the pieces may not link.

I will use 'DaFont.com' in order to find my typographies as this is a site that makes it easy to find and download multiple different fonts in order top find the most appropriate one.
The first typography I will look at will be for my E4 poster.

To set a bench mark of what my typography will have to look like, I will look at the one that has been used for "Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy". After looking at 'DaFont.com' I found the typography Sanchez which I think is similar to the one that E4 uses and I will use this one on my poster (http://www.dafont.com/sanchez.font)

The typography that I will use on my Channel 4 poster is one that is already a default typography that is already saved on Photoshop so I will not have to down load it onto a computer. The one that I have found to create it would be Calibri.

Analysing E4 Poster- Codes and Conventions

I will be using E4 as one of my channels that I will create my teenager, drug encoraging poster for. I chose E4 for this poster because they have shown programs such as "Misfits" and "Skins" that also involve the use of drugs and drinking which is what my poster will be encoraging and glamorising.

I will use an image of a teenager as this is who the program will be targeting and who would be most likely to relate to the programs.
As well as teenagers watching the TV show, it will also attract an adult audience because they may be interested in seeing what their children are taking and using and the affects that it will have on them.

From this Skins poster we are able to look at the conventions that are used. For example, there is a banner with the E4 logo at the top right hand corner, this would be seen on all posters that they create and therefore I will need to include it in mine. Another convention that I can see from this poster would be that the poster used should be washed out and use dark colours in order to create a negative feeling. In order to achieve this in my own work I will need to chose where I take my photos carefully so that they give the same feeling off.

Planning- ITV2 Poster

The final poster that I will be creating is for ITV2

Somethings that I will have to include on this poster to make it appropriate for ITV2 would be the ITV2 logo and a style of typography which is similar to what is used. This is something that would be used across all of the posters that they create to make sure that they link and that there is a common feature so that the audience knows what to expect. Another feature that I would use on my ITV2 poster would be the typography that is used across of all the platforms. This is also used for brand recognition as well as the use of the logo, this helps for the consumer of the program to easily recognise it as something that they would enjoy watching.

Some of the previous posters that I have looked at for other TV channels followed a theme of dark washed out colours that create a negative feel but as this poster is glamorising the use of drugs, the photos are very bright and follow a theme of bright, clean crisp colours in positive colours such as white and red. The name of the program that I will be creating this poster for would be '************'

Ideas for test shots that I will take:
- An ashtray, stubbed out cigaret with lipstick
- Empty bottle of wine
- Hand with nail varnish holding drug?

Planning- E4 Poster

For my E4 poster, I will have to create it in a way that will attract a teenage audience. One way of doing this is by using images that involve things that will interest them such as scenes from parties or scenes that may be sexualised. The name of the program that I will be creating will be 'Outside' I have chosen this name because programs that have previously been created by E4 that are similar to my one have had short names such as 'Glue' and 'Misfits' so I believed that 'Outside' would be short and easily remembered as well as it representing the cast as not being the social norm.
I will use images on it that are of people that are about the same age range that I am trying to attract with the poster, 16-25 year olds. This would be done because this target market would be able to best relate to people that are of the same age range and are more likely to personally identify with the characters which would make it more appealing to watch.

Some of the ideas that I have had for test shots for my E4 poster would be ones such as, the top of a room full of teenagers so that you are only able to see the tops of their head. I would take this test shot because by not being able to see the peoples faces, you are creating a feeling of mystery and an enigma that they will have to watch the program to find out about.

I will take some inspiration from posters such as "This is England". This is because this cast are of a similar age to the cast that I will have shown in my show and also because I feel like it represents what it is like for a teenager to be in a crowed of people and how easily is for someone to get lost in that environment.

Planning- Channel 4 Poster

I will be creating a Channel 4 poster that is about the adverse affect that drugs can have on people and the concequences that they may have to face if they chose to take them.

Things to include:
- The Channel 4 logo along the right hand side of the poster. I will find this image online and I will use editing soft wear to add it to the photo that I have taken
- The program title 'Children Lost to Drugs'
- A large image with washed out dark colours to create a negative feeling. This will cause people to watch the program because people enjoy looking at other peoples misfortune.
- Possible for young children or young teenagers to be involved as this is what people will think is most emotional and will

In order to have my poster fit the theme of drug use and smoking, I will use props such as fake drugs and alcohol bottles, this will create a Meis-en-scene and through the use of dark lighting and dark colours, I will be able to create the harsh negative feeling which is required for these posters.
Quite often, Channel 4 posters will be one simple image and the name of the program along with the slogan bellow it will further explain what the program will be about.

This is evident with posters for programs such as 'Embarrassing Bodies' where they have used almost unrelated suggestive pictures in order to advertise what program it is and then placed the name of the program, time and channel over the top.

I will be able to create an image like this through the use of props and may not be required to use a model.

Ideas for poster:
- Black background with some powder and a spoon
- Person huddling in corner

I will use images that imply something rather than show what is occurring right out, this will be done

Analysing ITV2 poster- Codes and Conventions

For my ITVBe poster I will be analysing a poster that is for the TV series, "Diary of a Call Girl". This program is similar to the program that I will be creating my poster for because they are both sexualised and targeted towards a female audience that would be able to relate to the characters and take personal gratification from admiring the life style that they lead.
- The codes and conventions of a poster that has been created for ITV2 would be the logo in the bottom right of the poster. This allows the person viewing it to quickly know what channel it will be shown on and who has created it.
- The main image is of an actress, Billie Pipper, and she has been sexualised in both the way she is posed and the clothes that she is wearing.
- The red and black colour of the title links in with  the colour of her underwear and these colours create the feeling of passion and sexuality.
- The background that has been used is white and is textured to appear like a fabric as if she was laying on a bed which continues to create the sexual feeling, I could use similar mise-en-scene in my advertising posters to attract a similar audience.

Analysing Channel 4 poster- Codes and Conventions

I will look at a poster that has been created by Channel 4 in order to advertise a TV show that it  is showing called "Britain's forgotten children- A season on the care system". This is an example of a hard-hitting TV show that they have created and it is similar type of show that I will be creating my poster for which is a documentary on teenagers and their drug use and the negative effects it will have on their life.

- The colours that have been used on this poster are washed out dull colours, this has been done to show the negative feel of the program. Due to it being on a sad topic that effects children, they have washed out the colours to create a negative feeling
- On all of the posters that have been created for Channel 4, there is the white logo on the right side, either in the middle or at the bottom which allows people to know easily who has created the production
- Another convention of Channel 4's posters would be the white text box with black typography that tells us what the program is and when it starts. The typography that has been used on the text is one that looks similar to a type writer
- In the bottom right hand corner there is a channel 4 website that links to the page for the program so that people are able to find out more about it and this links platforms
- The image that has been used contains a child that adds to the shock factor which means that people may be more attracted to view it to see what it was about
- This program is most likely to attract an adult audience rather than a teen one as the parents of teenagers would be interested in seeing what affects drugs and drinking will have on their children

Research- Posters

To begin my research I will research the style and the continuity that is used in each poster for the TV channel that I have chosen.

My first poster is for Channel 4. When looking at many posters that they have created, I have seen that the conventions for all of them are to have the Channel 4 logo along the right hand side of the image, the image take up the whole screen and then the name of the TV show and the tag line in a white text box on the left hand side. Most of the images that are used are brightly coloured and dramatic. The TV shows that are shown on Channel 4 are often modern day documentary styled programs that will cause emotion to the views and are up to date issues, this is why I have chosen it to create a poster for Channel 4 that is to do with the effects that drugs have on teenagers and the adverse effects from this.

The second poster that I will look at is for BBC Three, I have chosen this channel to produce my poster for because they have other TV shows that are targeting a teenage audience such as "Sun Sex and Suspicious parents". This poster will be used to advertise a TV show about young adults (aged 16-24) using drugs and talking about how they enjoy them and how they improve their experience.

The third poster that I will be creating is for ITV2 and will be for glamorising smoking, I chose this channel because it has programs such as The Only Way is Essex and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. These programs are known for being glamorised and for being sexualised so it would fit the criteria to be shown on this Tv channel.

Overview

Is smoking and drug use being encourage and glamorised to a teenage audience through the British media?

I have a written an essay which explores weather the British media is influencing the decisions teenagers make about things such as drugs and alcohol.

For my production piece, I will be creating three promotional posters for three different Tv channels. One will be created for E4 which will be be targeted towards a teenage audience with a teenage cast and to do with them and their experience with drugs, how they have contributed to them having a good time. The second promotional poster will be created for Channel 4 and this will be a documentary on the adverse effect of teenagers taking drugs such as resulting in death due to overdose or losing money and family due to it. The final promotional poster that I will be creating is going to be for ITV2 and this will be to do with the glamorisation of drugs through TV and encouraging it.

I will be creating these pieces in particular because I feel that they will cover all the people that are affected by teenagers using drugs and alcohol, the parents, the friends and the people themselves.
