Planning- Channel 4 Poster

I will be creating a Channel 4 poster that is about the adverse affect that drugs can have on people and the concequences that they may have to face if they chose to take them.

Things to include:
- The Channel 4 logo along the right hand side of the poster. I will find this image online and I will use editing soft wear to add it to the photo that I have taken
- The program title 'Children Lost to Drugs'
- A large image with washed out dark colours to create a negative feeling. This will cause people to watch the program because people enjoy looking at other peoples misfortune.
- Possible for young children or young teenagers to be involved as this is what people will think is most emotional and will

In order to have my poster fit the theme of drug use and smoking, I will use props such as fake drugs and alcohol bottles, this will create a Meis-en-scene and through the use of dark lighting and dark colours, I will be able to create the harsh negative feeling which is required for these posters.
Quite often, Channel 4 posters will be one simple image and the name of the program along with the slogan bellow it will further explain what the program will be about.

This is evident with posters for programs such as 'Embarrassing Bodies' where they have used almost unrelated suggestive pictures in order to advertise what program it is and then placed the name of the program, time and channel over the top.

I will be able to create an image like this through the use of props and may not be required to use a model.

Ideas for poster:
- Black background with some powder and a spoon
- Person huddling in corner

I will use images that imply something rather than show what is occurring right out, this will be done

Analysing ITV2 poster- Codes and Conventions

For my ITVBe poster I will be analysing a poster that is for the TV series, "Diary of a Call Girl". This program is similar to the program that I will be creating my poster for because they are both sexualised and targeted towards a female audience that would be able to relate to the characters and take personal gratification from admiring the life style that they lead.
- The codes and conventions of a poster that has been created for ITV2 would be the logo in the bottom right of the poster. This allows the person viewing it to quickly know what channel it will be shown on and who has created it.
- The main image is of an actress, Billie Pipper, and she has been sexualised in both the way she is posed and the clothes that she is wearing.
- The red and black colour of the title links in with  the colour of her underwear and these colours create the feeling of passion and sexuality.
- The background that has been used is white and is textured to appear like a fabric as if she was laying on a bed which continues to create the sexual feeling, I could use similar mise-en-scene in my advertising posters to attract a similar audience.

Analysing Channel 4 poster- Codes and Conventions

I will look at a poster that has been created by Channel 4 in order to advertise a TV show that it  is showing called "Britain's forgotten children- A season on the care system". This is an example of a hard-hitting TV show that they have created and it is similar type of show that I will be creating my poster for which is a documentary on teenagers and their drug use and the negative effects it will have on their life.

- The colours that have been used on this poster are washed out dull colours, this has been done to show the negative feel of the program. Due to it being on a sad topic that effects children, they have washed out the colours to create a negative feeling
- On all of the posters that have been created for Channel 4, there is the white logo on the right side, either in the middle or at the bottom which allows people to know easily who has created the production
- Another convention of Channel 4's posters would be the white text box with black typography that tells us what the program is and when it starts. The typography that has been used on the text is one that looks similar to a type writer
- In the bottom right hand corner there is a channel 4 website that links to the page for the program so that people are able to find out more about it and this links platforms
- The image that has been used contains a child that adds to the shock factor which means that people may be more attracted to view it to see what it was about
- This program is most likely to attract an adult audience rather than a teen one as the parents of teenagers would be interested in seeing what affects drugs and drinking will have on their children

Research- Posters

To begin my research I will research the style and the continuity that is used in each poster for the TV channel that I have chosen.

My first poster is for Channel 4. When looking at many posters that they have created, I have seen that the conventions for all of them are to have the Channel 4 logo along the right hand side of the image, the image take up the whole screen and then the name of the TV show and the tag line in a white text box on the left hand side. Most of the images that are used are brightly coloured and dramatic. The TV shows that are shown on Channel 4 are often modern day documentary styled programs that will cause emotion to the views and are up to date issues, this is why I have chosen it to create a poster for Channel 4 that is to do with the effects that drugs have on teenagers and the adverse effects from this.

The second poster that I will look at is for BBC Three, I have chosen this channel to produce my poster for because they have other TV shows that are targeting a teenage audience such as "Sun Sex and Suspicious parents". This poster will be used to advertise a TV show about young adults (aged 16-24) using drugs and talking about how they enjoy them and how they improve their experience.

The third poster that I will be creating is for ITV2 and will be for glamorising smoking, I chose this channel because it has programs such as The Only Way is Essex and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. These programs are known for being glamorised and for being sexualised so it would fit the criteria to be shown on this Tv channel.

Overview

Is smoking and drug use being encourage and glamorised to a teenage audience through the British media?

I have a written an essay which explores weather the British media is influencing the decisions teenagers make about things such as drugs and alcohol.

For my production piece, I will be creating three promotional posters for three different Tv channels. One will be created for E4 which will be be targeted towards a teenage audience with a teenage cast and to do with them and their experience with drugs, how they have contributed to them having a good time. The second promotional poster will be created for Channel 4 and this will be a documentary on the adverse effect of teenagers taking drugs such as resulting in death due to overdose or losing money and family due to it. The final promotional poster that I will be creating is going to be for ITV2 and this will be to do with the glamorisation of drugs through TV and encouraging it.

I will be creating these pieces in particular because I feel that they will cover all the people that are affected by teenagers using drugs and alcohol, the parents, the friends and the people themselves.
